Maoists unveil new strategy to retain weapons before UN arrives

Maoists have unveiled a new strategy to retain their weapons before a UN team arrives next month to manage them. Chairman Prachanda revealed the Maoist plan as Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said emphatically Maoists will have to surrender their weapons if they are to join an interim administration ahead of elections for a constituent assembly. According to the new Maoist strategy, they won't join the government but will lend it outside support while pushing for elections for a constituent assembly...more

Basanta Lohani’s ‘Void’ released

‘Void’, an anthology of poems by Basanta Lohani, was released on 18 August amidst a function organized by Society of Nepali Writers in English and Akshar Publications.

Dr. Durga Prasad Bhandari, Prof. Dr. Abhi Subedi, Dr. Ganga Khadka, and Dr. Sanjeev Upreti commented on Lohani’s book and also recited some of its poems.

Deputy PM Amik Sherchan was also invited at the function as a chief guest however he did not make it due to some unknown reasons. In spite of his absence, the function was held successfully and with great exuberance.

Memoriam of a martyr

The 17th memorial day of Martyr Manjur World was organised Saturday at the Mahadev Parbati Temple complex. Manjur World had made significant contribution in bringing democracy to the country in 2046. Rastriya Samaj Sudhar Santha, which Manjur World established is dedicated to nationalism, democracy and social service. At the function, speaking as chief guest former minister Dr. Durga Pokharel said that Manjur World was dedicated to the country, monarchy and democracy and he showed the way to serve the country through social service.

Other speakers at the programme included were senior advocate Jukti Jung Lamichhane, former minister Kuber Sharma, Govinda Dev Bhatta.

One popular programme on Star One channel – The Great Indian Laughter Champion -- is being watched here in Nepal with interest, especially by Indians. No doubt, the programme is purely comedy-based. However, some jokes addressed to the Nepali community are in badtaste. They are very sarcastic and hurtful to the community as a whole.... more
