It seems, in “New Nepal” the government is doing nothing. The prime agenda of the government is to draft the constitution on time. But it is not going to draft the constitution in time too. Look at the daily load-shedding schedule: mostly during the office time, there is hardly any electricity and only during late night, one can enjoy electricity facility. What does this mean? Is the government trying to disseminate the message that the people should not work? So far, the government, by providing national holiday in every festival of every ethnic community, has already established the world record of being the country which is enjoying the maximum number of holidays. In the same manner, the government is encouraging the people for not working or working less. Of course, the government itself is not working and it is encouraging the people to not work. We can easily assume, in such a manner, the political leaders in power are trying to transform the prosperous Nepal into dark Nepal in the era of “New Nepal”!
The other day, Energy Minister Dr Prakash Saran Mahat was claiming that the load-shedding hours will not increase 12 hours. The Minister’s claim was not based on reality. According to a source in the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the claim of the Minister is baseless as the water level in rivers is declining and there is no chance of increase in the flow of the rivers until the rainy season starts. It is expected, the country may face load-shedding for more than 19 hours daily.
Concerned experts were all aware about the electricity crisis and last year too, we experienced daily load-shedding for almost 20 hours. During that time, the political leaders were making big talks saying that they would immediately import electricity from India and soon the power crisis will end. Again, this year, we are experiencing the same situation. The Energy Minister is less concerned about decreasing the long hours of load-shedding, rather he is busy in making money by transferring the NEA staff to lucrative projects. If the government will not pay serious attention and seek other options for smooth supply of power, this load-shedding problem will continue for decades, according to a NEA source. But the government has not made any alternative efforts for immediately resolving the problem. The ministers are busy in foreign trips by spending money from the state coffer. They are highly involved in corruption and nepotism practices, but they are less concerned about the plight of the people and country.
Interestingly, the Energy Ministry has found immediate solution of reducing load-shedding by restricting import of invertors.
No matter, all is good in “New Nepal”!
