Babbler has seen many reports and comments in this very Weekly regarding the Police raiding soft targets like casinos, dance bars and massage parlours among others. Whether this is right or wrong, more knowledgeable people or experts may know. But what Babbler was concerned about, was when a DSP, while defending the raids of the police on massage parlours, said that no police personnel was involved in "shady business" in these "businesses". "If anyone proves that police personnel are involved in these massage parlours or dance bars, I will take action," this DSP said. What Babbler asks is, why do all Nepalese officials talk of only taking action against others, why can't they say take action against me?
No other hermits?
Some don't like him, but many people feel Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was a clean figure, if not sexually, at least financially. So most were quite content when he was given a government built house, dubbed an "ashram" for him to live in with his lady friend Amita Kapali. But it seems corrupt constructors ruled roost even while building this "simple ashram". According to media reports, vast parts of the "ashram" caved in due to the Monsoon rains. Amita asked in an interview with a TV Channel, "If this sort of corruption takes place while building Kishunji's house, then what happens at other places?" A logical question and the answer for which we can see in the newly constructed but damaged roads. But why a house only for Kishunji? Aren't there other "Santas (hermits)" in Nepalese politics? Babbler doesn't like to recall tragic events, but didn't a UML leader commit suicide when his son did not get a job? And irony upon ironies, the son also committed suicide later on. Spare some thoughts for them as well.
