The CPN dominated House of Representatives has finally administered the oath of office to Resham Chaudhary, the mastermind behind the Kailai carnage of 2015 in which seven persons, including a children and a top police officer were brutally killed.
He was elected to the House of Representatives in the ticket of the Rastriya Janata Party from
Kailali constituency-1 by securing double votes his rival contestant from the then CPN-UML got.
Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara administered the oath to Chaudhary, who is currently under custody in connection with the investigation of Tikapur incident, at meeting hall of Agriculture Committee in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu.
He was brought to Singha Durbar from Dillibazaar jail on a police van. He took his oath in Tharu language.
Chaudhary’s wife Ranjita Shrestha and son were also present during the swearing in ceremony.
Following the ceremony, Speaker Mahara and RJP-N leaders congratulated Chaudhary.
After taking oath, he was again taken to Dillibazaar jail.
The CPN a year ago had objected to the preparations made to administer him oath of office, but 10 months after that the government led by the same party managed for administering the oath to Chaudhary.
However, the administration of oath to a murder-convict has drawn public criticism. Legally, no convict can become a lawmaker in Nepal. Now with Chaudhary taking oath, assembly member of Gandaki Province Rajiv Gurung (Deepak Manange) is also trying to take oath of office.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court refused to free Chaudhary. Consequently, he will be spending uncertain time in jail even after taking the oath of the parliamentarian.
Chaudhary was on the run after being charge-sheeted for his alleged key role but later surrendered before Kailali District Court on February 26, 2018.
