The factional division in the Nepali Congress is likely to eat up Nepal Students Union, the powerful sister organisation of the party formed some 48 years ago.
The NSU whose general convention should have held by August 2018 is still unable to fix the date for its general convention.
Moreover, NSU leaders close to Ram Chandra Paudel had recently tendered their resignation en-masse, further complicating the situation.
When the two factions of the NC—one led by party president SherBahadurDeuba and another led by Paudel– tried to legally capture the NSU, it is likely to meet untimely death. When Deuba lost its grip in many of the sister organisations in the past two years, it resorted to amend the statute which invited further tussle pushing the rival factions further apart.
Now the establishment is preparing to extend the tenure of the organisation, the rival faction exerting pressure to hold the general convention at the earliest.
