The strong statement issued on Friday by Pushpa Kamal Dahal, chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), denouncing the United States of America and its allies for intervening in the internal affairs of Bolivian Republic of Venezuela has unexpectedly put the government led by KP Sharma Oli in the soup.
According to sources, the US embassy in Kathmandu objected to the statement.
Dahal had issued the statement when Prime Minister Oli was in Davos, Switzerland.
There have been reports that Dahal issued the strong statement as suggested by Madhav Kumar Nepal.
In the statement Dahal had said that the CPN supported the people of Venezuela, the sovereignty of the State and the recognition of democratically elected constitutional President of Nicolas Maduro.
He accused the US of intervening in Venezuela with an intention of increasing violence in the South American country by dividing the people and challenging democracy, sovereignty and peace.
“The self-declaration of Juan Guaido as the acting president of Venezuela and his immediate recognition by the US and other regional states clearly show the grand design going on against the legitimately elected President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, President Nicolas Maduro and Venezuelan people,” the statement issued by Dahal read.
The CPN stated that the US move was an unacceptable intrusion in the internal affairs and an attempt of ‘imperialist coup’ in Venezuela.
The US had been trying to create chaos and violence putting inhuman economic sanctions and threatening a military intervention in Venezuela since a decade, the CPN said.
“It is a serious challenge to the UN Charter and Principle of peaceful co-existence. Therefore, we call the US and other countries to respect the principle of non-interference, national sovereignty and peaceful co-existence,” the statement read.
Strongly opposing the act of the anti-people and imperialist forces intruding Venezuela, the ruling party appealed to the international community, the United Nations, and all the sovereign nations to stand for the solidarity and support of Venezuela in their struggle to defend the latter’s national and people’s sovereignty.
Although the statement was issued by the ruling party, the government is reportedly unable to disown it neither could it say that it was not issued by the government.
