Bhikshu Aswoghos Mahasthabir passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness. He was 93.
He was declared dead while undergoing treatment at Grande International Hospital. He was the 6th Sanghanayak Bhikshu Ashwoghos of Nepal.
Late Mahasthabir was former lawmaker to the National Assembly from 2047 to 2049 B.S. representing the then Unified Marxist Leninist (UML).
The government had decided to offer ‘special national honour’ to Bhikshu Aswoghos Mahasthabir during his last rite ceremony.
An emergency meeting of the Cabinet held at the official residence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday morning decided to give the national honor to late Mahasthabir.
The government has also decided to bear all expenses required to perform his last rites, said Minister Baskota, also the government spokesperson.
Mahasthabir was suffering from low blood pressure, lung, kidney and heart ailments. He was admitted at the Grande International Hospital three weeks ago and was also admitted at Grande City Hospital one and half months ago with diarrhea complaint.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli himself had reached the hospital to inquire his health condition at Grande International Hospital.
Late Mahasthabir had once served as vice chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust.
