The citizenship amendment bill is impending in the federal parliament. By bypassing the parliament, the Home Ministry has issued a circular to all the district administration offices to grant citizenship to the kids of those who have already obtained Nepali citizenship certificate.
Such a practice is intended to grant citizenship to the migrated Indian citizens, say local intellectuals.
On the amendment of the citizenship law also, they have remarked that those foreigners married to the Nepali citizens should not get naturalized citizenship overnight.
They have suggested to follow the Indian law on providing such a citizenship. The Indian population is 1 billion 365 million, whereas, Nepal’s population is just 300 million. By keeping Nepal-India borders opened, citizenship certificate should not be distributed in an opened and easy manner, they have suggested.
Genuine Nepalis should not be left from receiving Nepali citizenship certificate, in the meantime, the migrated citizens should not be allowed to obtain Nepali citizenship certificate, they have remarked.
