Chairmen of the ruling CPN KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal spent two days in Chandragiri last week and held secret talks to conclude the party unification process.
The two leaders reached the hill directly linked with Nepal’s unification for the organisational unification of the two communist parties. However Madhav Kumar Nepal, who is not happy with the ways Oli and Dahal are working to conclude the unification process, was not invited in the Chandragiri parley. However, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, CPN General Secretary Bishnu Paudel and other leaders also accompanied the chairman duo, according to the source.
The two chairmen stayed at Chandragiri Hills Resort for the night deliberating unification process.
However, after returning from Chandragiri, the two leaders held intensive discussion with Nepal in Baluwatar. Nepal spent the whole day in Baluwatar on Monday.
A Baluwatar source said the chairmen are discussing in a way to conclude unification by April 22, the day when the Communist Party was established in Nepal 70 years ago.
CPN has been unable to form party committees at the lower level and unify their sister organisations even 11 months after the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) were formally unified in the centre.
The party’s standing committee had formed a task force under Home Minister Thapa on December 28, 2018 to submit a proposal about organisational unification of the party and to resolve the discrepancies in the provincial committees within 15 days.
But the party’s secretariat dissolved the task force on February 22 after it failed to complete the assigned task, and asked the chairmen for a proposal on the issue of organisational unification.
The two chairmen had been regularly discussing organizational unification at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar during March. But the process was again delayed as Dahal left for America for treatment of his wife in mid-March. The chairmen have again intensified discussion on unification after Dahal returned home.
Although nn Monday Dahal and Oli invited Madhav Kumar Nepal in Baluwatar to sort out the differences and Nepal spent the whole day in Baluwatar, the outcomes were not made public.
