  • Kathmandu, 17 May: Nepal has blacklisted 67 companies of various countries, barring Nepali migrant workers from working for them, and 52 of them are in Malaysia, one of the most popular destinations for Nepali workers.

According to Karobar daily, they have been blacklisted for breaching the labour agreement signed with the Nepali workers. There have been complaints that they do not provide remuneration and other facilities as per the agreement.

As per the statistics maintained by the Department of Foreign Employment, a total of 79 per cent of foreign companies blacklisted by Nepal are from Malaysia. The remaining 21 are from Gulf countries.

In the meanwhile, Naya Patrika daily has reported that Nepal since April 2018 has sent only 2,000 workers to Malaysia. Nepal and Malaysia had signed a deal to make sure workers get the best deals. But, as of now, Malaysia hasn’t formulated a proper atmosphere and policy for workers. Only those workers who have received their calling visas have left for Malaysia.
