Buddha Jayanti observed

    The nation on Saturday observed the 2563rd Budhha Jayanti by organising various programmes across the nation.
    President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli attended a function organised in Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, on the occasion.
    Coinciding the Buddha Jayanati President Bhandari also announced the commencement of Lumbini Visit Year-2076 B.S. on the occasion of Buddha Purnima and Lumbini Day.
    Inaugurating the function, President Bhandari invited the Buddhist people across the world to visit Lumbini.
    She further said that the development of Lumbini would play a positive role in the prosperity of State 5.
    She drew the attention of Lumbini Development Trust towards accomplishing the master plan at the earliest.
    Stating that the Lumbini area should be promoted as a world-class academic center, Bhandari stated that peace and stability should be maintained at the area.
    Addressing the function, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that the government would launch a phase-wise programme for the development and promotion of Lumbini.
    Prime Minister Oli said that Lumbini would be developed as a hub of meditation and knowledge.
    He said that the support of the international community was a must for the rapid development of the area.
    He pledged that the Buddha-related places, including Tilaurakot of Kapilvastu would equally be developed.
    “Since Tilaurakot has unveiled new fact before the world, a new kind of development planning will be devised for its development and promotion,” the Prime Minister said.
    On the occasion, State 5 Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel said that Lumbini would be developed making coordination with the federal and state governments.
    Vice-chairperson of Lumbini Development Fund Bhikshu Mettey said that the Lumbini Master Plan would complete within three years, and it would change the face of Lumbini.
    Functions were also marked in Kathmandu and in the Buddhist shrines across the country as well as around the world as UN has decided Baisakh Porrnima when Buddha attained enlightenment as Buddha Jayanati across the world.
