Killing of Sarlahi district in Charge of Netra Bikram Chand (Biplav)-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), Kumar Poudel, on Thursday in an exchange of fire with police has been questioned.
Poudel was killed in an exchange of fire with police in Lalbandi, Sarlahi
Poudel led four-member team fired at the police, which led to the exchange of fire, which resulted in the death of Paudel, said the police.
However, the killing was questioned by the leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, including former Home Minister Jandardan Sharma. Similarly, human rights organistaions have also termed the killing illegal.
Leader Sharma argued that Paudel was killed in a fake encounter or after arresting him. He asked how a man’s hand could be broken in five six places if he was killed in the exchange of fire.
However, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and Inspector General of Nepal Police Sarbendra Khanal defended the killing.
Speaking at the parliament meeting and at the meeting of State Affairs Committee, Minister Thapa said Paudel was killed after his group opened fire at police.
He also promised to carry out necessary investigations into the case and added that Poudel who had unleashed terror the community through a donation spree was killed in the police encounter.
Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal read out complaints and cases filed against Poudel found to have been involved in various criminal activities.
Minister Thapa further said efforts were underway for a long time to seek a solution to the activities of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led group politically. The government had taken the group’s activities seriously.
“The group does not seem that it wants the problem be solved politically,” the Home Minister said.
