Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his state visit to Nepal, has given clear message to the Nepali leaders that they should always give attention on maintaining clean image and good governance.
During the meeting with the senior leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by party co-chairman Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda, the Chinese President said that leaders should maintain a simple lifestyle by giving up a luxurious life.
According to reports published in the local vernacular dailies quoting party spokesman Narayankaji Shrestha, President Xi said, “First of all, the Communist Party, to rule the nation, has to develop a clean image and good governance, this is our experience.”
“The Communist Party of China is not in the government by capturing power through violence but due to the public support,” he said.
The CPC in the government is continuously serving the people, as a result, the party holds strong public support, the President had said.
In China, it is not an easy task to rule the nation. Without public support, it was impossible, he had said.
President Xi had advised the NCP leaders to conduct works by putting the people at the center point. If this is done, there will be public support for the government.
Significantly, in another occasion, Xi, while sharing China’s experience, said that others will not come to build the nation. The country has to be built by the country’s people themselves. This is a clear message to the Nepali leaders and people that Nepalis should build Nepal, as no other countries will come to build this nation.
China has reached its present position due to the hard struggle and contribution of the Chinese people and the government, Xi has remarked.
In his address at the banquet hosted by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, he expressed his commitment to support Nepal for her prosperity. He also remarked that Nepal is going to be transformed into a land-link country from a landlocked nation.
“I often say, we must complete the plans that we have developed. We are doing the same in China also,” Presidnt Xi remarked.
    President Xi said:
“We have just observed the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. We have set two goals for this century.
One goal, we are going to achieve in the upcoming year and the next goal we plan to achieve in the next 30 years”.
At present, in Nepal, politics has become corrupt and criminalized. One after another scandals are coming to surface, unfortunately, culprits are able to escape. One can witness rampant corruption, mal governance, luxury lifestyle of the political leaders and their relatives.
Talking about the economy, the government budget is being spent just by paying salary and allowances and other facilities of the political leaders and bureaucrats. Only a nominal amount is left for development projects. That too, is suffering from high percentage of commission to be shared by political leaders, high ranking bureaucrats and construction contractors. This is why our national priority projects have been ruined.
Such practices are strictly prohibited in China and since President Xi assumed office, he has treated corrupt leaders and officials as the enemies of the country and he has also given a guideline to the leaders and officials to maintain simplicity and end the practice of unnecessary government expenditure. These are the concrete examples on how China is moving towards the path of prosperity.
If the Nepali leaders follow the working style of Chinese President Xi, they can easily build Nepal. There is the strong need of commitment in the political leaders to build the nation. First of all, our leaders too have to treat corruption as an enemy and those leaders and bureaucrats involved in corruption should be punished and rejected by the society. Also, the practice of squeezing government fund by those in power has to be ended.
