Unable to digest the defeat in the recent party convention, Kamal Thapa has finally announced a new party—Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal by organising an event on Saturday.
He revived his previous party only to become its chairman. After he lost election of party president to Rajendra Lingden, Thapa was unable to digest the defeat. He accused the former king for the defeat although restoration of monarchy was the main slogan of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party which he led for years.
Now he has formed a new party breaking the old one, even though he had sworn by touching the Gita that he would never break the party. But he could not give up his old habit.
Now with the formation (revival) of the RPP-Nepal, the pro-royalist party has become weaker further. Many of the leaders like Buddhiman Tamang denied joining Kamal Thapa’s new party. It means, his party will be without leaders having popular base. But presence of RPP-N will obviously weaken the RPP. For example, after Ram Thapa joined Kamal Thapa’s new party, it became weak in Jhapa from where the only lawmaker, Rajendra Lingden, was elected in 2017 to the House.
Earlier, Sunil Thapa quit the party and joined NC. After the departure of Sunil Thapa, the party has become weak in Dhankuta and Sarlahi. Now with the departure of Kamal Thapa, the party’s main base in Jhapa and other districts has been shaken further.
