Gandaki province to conduct feasibility study for cannabis cultivation

Kathmandu, 14 June: Gandaki provincial government is going to conduct a feasibility study for cannabis cultivation. In the annual policy and program of the government of Gandaki province for the financial year 2023/24, it is mentioned that the feasibility of cannabis cultivation for the production of medicinal and industrial raw materials will be studied and necessary legal arrangements will be made.

The government has taken a policy to encourage the branding and marketing of hemp, Tusa, Niuro, Sinki, Banko, Timur, Sisno, Silam Potato, Millet, Kauno, Phapar, Barley, etc.

Emphasis will be given to land classification and commercialization to increase the productivity of land. It is said that the subsidy will be linked with the product for the sustainability and continuity of the product in the policy and program.

The government plans to develop the concept of ‘a technology-friendly smart agricultural firm’ in one constituency and conduct a collective agricultural development program with the necessary infrastructure.

It is said that in coordination with the research bodies in the province, solutions will be identified and disseminated through functional research on the urgent problems of the agricultural sector.
